Our students' and staff's safety and well-being are our number one priority, and we are working to enhance our existing security measures. A weapons detection program will launch on Wednesday, 5/8/2024.

Students who enter through the West Gate from the student parking lot will be screened with our new weapons detection system.

When going through the detection, please take the following steps:

  • Have your student ID out and visible.

  • Backpacks should be worn on both shoulders.

  • Remove all electronic devices (laptops, tablets) and three-ring binders from your backpack.

As we go through the early stages of using this system, we ask students and families to be patient. Parents, consider dropping your students off earlier if possible.

Our staff is aware of the implementation of this program and will take this into consideration towards tardies.

The weapon detection system utilizes advanced technology to identify and alert school administrators to the presence of concealed weapons upon entry to campus. The system is designed to detect metal objects associated with weapons and does not capture or store personal information about individuals. Privacy and confidentiality are top priorities, and the system adheres strictly to applicable laws and regulations.

The Mesa Public Schools Governing Board approved the weapons detection program at the November 28th meeting.

The weapons detection system and clear bag protocol will be used at graduation and other school events.

We understand that discussions about security measures can evoke various emotions and concerns. We encourage an open dialogue and welcome any questions or concerns you may have regarding the implementation of this pilot program.

Please take a look at this video on the program’s implementation.
